The inaugural Ancora Pro Series golf tournament tees off Monday in Banten where local golfers have the opportunity to hone high level skills.
The four-day competition takes place at Gading Raya Golf, followed by the second series whose dates and venue are yet to be confirmed.
Nursalam A Tabusalla, executive chairman of the Indonesian Professional Golf Association (PGPI) said that golf series, part of the planned four series of Ancora-initiated golf tournament this year, would give Indonesian golfers the chance to improve performance in higher level of competitions, one of which will be the US$400,000 Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational (PIPI).
The Ancora-sponsored invitational event, which is part of the Asian Tour, is scheduled for July 23-26 at Damai Indah Golf Kapuk, where Andik Mauludin, Ilyasyak, Junaidi Ibrahim and Maan Nasim, will be among the favorites to win.
“I hope Ancora’s initiative would draw other sponsors in the sport,” Nursalam said on Sunday.
Gita Wirjawan, chairman of Ancora Group, said they hoped to make the Ancora Pro Series, with a total of Rp 150 million in cash prizes, part of Indonesian golf development chain.
“We hope golfers benefit from this tournament,” he said.
Ancora also plans to hold a junior golf championship, which will be the fifth of the eight-leg junior golf circuit this year. The tournament will run from June 15 to 19 at Matoa Golf Course, Jakarta.
