Veteran golfer Maan Nasim won the first edition of the Ancora Pro Series after he finished at 11-under 273 at Golf Gading Serpong in Banten on Friday.

Maan clinched top spot with a 4-under 67 on the last day. Andik Mauluddin was second at 9-under 275, with Jamel Ondo two shots further back in third.

“I was behind in the front nine, but I managed to keep myself calm and use my experience on this course to go for the victory,” Maan said. “But I always like to be the hunter rather than leading from the start. It gets me more excited.”

Maan earned Rp 24 million ($2,300) for the victory.

Like the other golfers in the tournament, Maan joined the Ancora Pro Series as part of his warm-up for the $400,000 Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational, which takes place July 23-26 at Damai Indah Golf Course in Kapuk, North Jakarta.

“I want to make the cut in the President Invitational, just like last year. And this is a good warm- up for me,” he said.

The second stop in the series is scheduled for June at a time and place yet to be announced.

Jakarta, meanwhile, will host the seventh Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship at Damai Indah Golf Course in Bumi Serpong Damai, Tangerang. The tournament, which runs Tuesday through Friday, is being held in conjunction with the city’s 482nd anniversary.

As many as 144 golfers, all under the age of 17, from 23 countries are expected to compete for the Jakarta Governor’s trophy. They will play in four divisions of boys and girls individuals and two divisions of boys and girls teams. A and B division golfers will play all four days, with C and D division players going three days.

Leonardus Tanuwijaya and Ian Andrew, who won the boys team event last year, will lead the 46-strong Indonesian contingent.
