Nurdana looked nothing like someone who has played golf for just two years, winning the boys’ A division of the PGN Ancora Junior Championship fifth series by eight shots.
The Bangka Belitung native also claimed the Best Gross Overall title at Matoa National Golf Course in Jakarta on Friday, shooting six-under 282 to win. Ian Andrew finished second at two-over 290 and Dera Minoza took third four shots further back.
“I’m very happy with this trophy as I failed to win the previous two junior tournaments at BSD [Bumi Serpong Damai] and Jagorawi,” Nurdana said. “It’s been my target to win here.”
The 17-year-old finished eighth in the Jakarta World Junior Championship at BSD in Tangerang, Banten, on June 5, then took second place at the Indonesia Open Junior Championship last week at Jakarta’s Jagorawi course.
Nurdana said the course’s short fairways had helped him win the Ancora tournament. “Shorter fairways made it easier for me to shoot under, but some of the greens are challenging,” he said.
Noviandra won the girls’ A division and Best Gross Overall title with a 22-over 238. Renata Riza Dimaya took second place after firing a 31-over 247 and Jessica Lidya finished third.
Besides their trophies, Nurdana and Jessica earned a scholarship to study at the Ancora Golf Institute.
The sixth series takes place on Sept. 27 at Jakarta’s Imperial Golf Club.
