Indonesia Qualification Callaway Junior World Championship 2010

Callaway Junior Worl Golf Championship 2010 will be held in San Diego, USA on July 12-15, 2010. Each country is represented and Indonesia will participate once more in the event, the most anticipated junior tournament worldwide.

Indonesian junior golfers who are interested in joining the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship tournament keeps on increasing, Ancora Sports has been appointed as the main sponsor and organizer of the qualification tournament. The tournament qualification has been held since 2007: 35 participants in 2007, 72 participants in 2008, and 96 participants in 2009. In 2010, 85 juniors participated at the qualification tournament, held at Gading Raya Golf Course on January 13-15, 2010.

Each year, the quota for Indonesian participants also increased (with the expectation of 2009), although several sports were unfulfilled, especially in the number of quota for Indonesian participants since 2007 are as follows:
- In 2007, 12 Indonesian participated out of 15 slots available
- In 2008, 17 Indonesian participated out of 23 slots available
- In 2009, 13 Indonesian participated out of 17 slots available

This year there was a large participation from the girls in the 15-17 years and 13-15 years divisions, which is encouraging given the low participants in the past. 2010 quota information should be available by February 1st.
Qualification Tournament at Gading Raya Golf Course January 13-15, 2010.

The participants in the qualification tournament were more varied. Eighty five golfers joined the event from various regions such as Samarinda, Riau, Bali, Surabaya, Semarang, Bandung, Banten, and Jakarta. In addition, we also had Indonesian juniors who currently study in Australia.

Some of the participants played at the 2009 Callaway Junior World, such as Clement Erio Kurniawan (Club: CBIOG), Gian Wirjawan (Ancora), Aldwin Kendarwan (CBIOG), Bernice Sitompul (CBIOG), Victory Tchong (Bali) and one of Indonesia’s youngest junior golfer, 6 year old Ana Karenina (Bintaro club). 2008 Callaway Junior Golf Participants such as Theodore Rahardja (World’s 18 golfer in the age group of 7-8 year-old), Dominikus Glenn, Jonathan Wijono (# 16th in the age group of 5-6 year-old from Pakuwon, Surabaya) also played in the qualification tournament.

Though the qualification tournament was delayed for several hours on the first day due rain smoothly. The closing ceremony event was highlighted by the attendance of Alga Topan, one of Indonesian junior golfers star during the 90s who competed five times in the championship with the highest position of # 6 in the 11-12 group division. Mr. RS Robbot, Pondok Cabe Golf Course General Manager and one of the sponsors of the Indonesian team in the 90s, and Mrs. Joice Sitompul, mother of juniors Alex and Bernice Sitompul who competed in the championship 10 years in row since 2000, also gave speech of their experience in the championship. In particular, Mrs. Joice Sitompul gave a heartfelt speech discussing her experience supporting her children in the tournament.

Ancora Sports also support the juniors who qualified to play at the championship. Since 2007, Ancora Sports provided monetary support to many athletes and gave various golf merchandises as well. This year, with support of our many sponsors and the Indonesian Golf Association, we intend to assist as much as we can.

The qualification event and the support for the qualified athletes couldn’t be successful without the leadership of Mr. Gita Wirjawan as the Chairman of Indonesia Callaway Junior World Golf Championship. His hope is that there will be more Indonesian players and winners in the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship.
