When you practice it is important to have a good idea of what makes the ball fly in the air in relation to distance and accuracy. The more knowledge you have about what influences the ball flight, the easier it becomes to evaluate what your swing is doing.

Your 5 Ball Flight Laws-

1. Club Path- The line in which the club is travelling when the ball is struck is one of the primary influences on the balls direction

2. Face- For the ball to travel in a straight line towards the target the club face must be at right angles to the target at impact.

3. Speed of the club- The speed of the ball of the clubface will influence spin and therefore trajectory.

4. Centeredness- An off centered shot will often result in an inconsistent distance and twisting of the club effecting accuracy

5. Angle of Approach- The angle of decent/ascent the ball is stuck in relation to the ground will affect both spin and the distance a ball can travel.

Correct Diagnosis of which factors you can tweak to maximize your golf performance, come see us here at Ancora Golf Institute Bali so we can have you hitting the ball longer and straighter than ever before.

The punch shot is a shot that can be used for the hitting low into the wind or under low hanging branches. The aim of the shot is to keep the ball low and still maintain a good distance. There are a few points to remember to achieve this.

1. Club face- Firstly for the ball to stay low you must have a lower lofted club. To make sure the ball does not rise high keep your hands positioned slightly in front of the ball.

2. Ball position- To make sure your club descends correctly onto the ball please, place the ball into the back of the stance. This will also compliment your hand position over the ball. This ball position will enable you to make a sharp contact with a slightly steeper decent into the shot.

3. Swing length- Apply slightly more pressure in your wrists to reduce your wrist action and swing with a 3/4 back-3/4 through swing. This will give you the best acceleration for this shot and give you good control of the clubface.

To get the most effective contact and distance control, there are 3 factors to take into account when pitching.

Make sure that when you’re in your setup position your weight distribution is correct. Place about 60% of your body weight on your left side (target side) This will ensure that you promote the most effective path and contact for your shot

Choose you ball position and the height of your pitch. Placing the ball in the back half of the stance will result in a lower ball flight where a ball position towards the centre will result in a higher flight (practice these different shots to see the reaction when the ball lands, this will give you the best idea of when to use the different trajectories)

Maintain posture and balance throughout the shot. A good posture with minimal weight transfer thoughout this shot will result in a consistent repeatable ball strike.

Full Swing

The Grip- One of the most important and often overlooked areas of the swing is the grip. This is the only part of our body that connects to the golf club. The correct position is to have the thumbs of both hands on an angle towards the right shoulder. A correct grip performs two major functions; firstly it helps the breaking of the wrists on the backswing to generate power, secondly to help rotate the clubface correctly so it returns to the square position at impact.

Chipping

Ball Position- Having the correct ball position in our chipping setup will result in greater control and consistency. For flat lies, we want the ball closer to the line of the right foot. This will give you better contact with the ball, also resulting in more backspin. Both of these elements will give you more confidence to get your chip shots closer to the hole

Putting

The Stroke- One of the most common mistakes amateur players make in their putting stroke is to make it a very uneven length between the backswing and follow through. To help with control and consistency, we like to see the length of our backswing and follow through more even on putts of all distances.
